The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Granite City is now accepting applications for the position of: Entry Level Law Enforcement

The Granite City Police Department strives for excellence in Law Enforcement.

Their main goal is to keep their community safe for the citizens of Granite City, Illinois.

Testing is being conducted for new hires and to establish an eligibility list for anticipated future hiring needs.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants must have attained their 21st Birthday by 1/31/20 or are 20 years of age and have successfully completed two years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university.  Applicant must be under the age of 35 years old  at such time as the final eligibility list is effective unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6., which provides in part that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a Certified (full-time) Law Enforcement Officer in a municipality in the United States.
  • Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement AND must possess an Associate’s Degree or at least 64 credit hours from an accredited college or university; or, have completed at least 3 years as a full-time police officer, and be presently certified, or able to become certified, by the Illinois Government Law Enforcement Officers Training Board.
  • Residence:  According to City Ordinance #8411, shall become actual resident (domiciled) in the City of Granite City within 90 days from the first date of their gainful employment with the City of Granite City.  The establishment and maintenance of primary residence within the City of Granite City shall be a condition of continued employment for said employment.
  • Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing which will include a written examination, oral interview, background investigation, polygraph test, psychological exam, physical agility test, and a thorough medical examination. Must possess the capability of being accepted into and successfully completing a state mandated police basic training academy.
  • Vision:  Applicants must have at least 20/80 binocular vision without glasses, correctable to 20/20 with glasses; or have 20/20 vision with contact lenses; and shall not be color blind. 

All applicants will be required to obtain five (5) letters of reference.

All individuals meeting eligibility requirements are encouraged to continue with the application process.
